Valeta Jo McCoy Nutt died peacefully of natural causes early Monday morning, January 1, 2018, at Sunlit Gardens in Rancho Cucamonga, California at the age of 91. She was born on February 15, 1926, in Lawton, Oklahoma to Josephine H. and Ogle H. McCoy. She had one younger sister, Willa Jean McCoy Bolan. She attended Amarillo High School, graduating in 1944. She married Ray Osborne Nutt on May 5, 1945 in San Diego, California and was married for almost 70 years until his death. She attended San Diego State University for two years, where she was a member of Epsilon Pi Theta Sorority. Valeta devoted her life to caring for her husband and her four daughters. She was active in the PTA, was a Girl Scout Leader, and worked tirelessly on the Band Booster and Band Uniform Committees. She chauffeured the four girls to their weekly music lessons (6 – 8 per week) and attended countless music performances and football games. Valeta was a member of the Christian Science Church, where she diligently served in many capacities including: several terms as Sunday School Teacher, Sunday School Superintendent, and First and Second Reader. Valeta loved to travel and visited many U.S. states and other countries throughout the world. She also enjoyed reading, bridge, bowling, and tennis. Valeta made a lasting impact on all those around her with her kind words, quaint sayings, contagious laugh, her kindness and her thoughtfulness of others. She is survived by: her four daughters, Beverly Adele Mitchell (John C.), Cynthia Jo Wood Van Slogteren, Anita Lee Greenwood (Zeno D.), and Barbara Sue Leitch; 12 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. She was a loving mother and grandmother and will be missed.
